My Mother in the Morning

I remember watching my mother get ready for work in the morning. She'd sit at her mother's dressing table and dip her hand into the recessed of the drawer, flip open a small case and - like an artist - expertly apply a touch of color and fantasy to her eyes, lips, cheeks. The scent of her perfume contrasted with the cool stone of the marble of the dresser where I'd perch my chin to watch the morning transformation. My mother has always been the most beautiful woman I know.
